Generalized Convexity and Generalized Monotonicity are the core of many important subjects in the context of various research fields, including Mathematics, Economics, management Science, Engineering, Probability, Statistics and other applied sciences. The interest toward these topics is in continuous grouth, as it is shown by five specific international meetings held to date. The Italian research units operating in the above fields are numerous and appreciated, both for the variety of the results obtained and for their importance in the theory as well as in the applications. During the years 1995, 1996, 1997 the national Italian project on "Generalized Convexity and Optimization for Economic and Financial Decisions" was coordinated by G. Giorgi. This Volume constitutes the proceedings of a symposium held in Verona on 28-29 May 1998. The symposium brought together almost all the Italian members of the said research project, some other Italian researchers and also some foreign researchers from Germany, Hungary, Russia and Vietnam.
